PROJECT: BOUDROW HOUSE

Historic Queen Anne home is surrounded by lush, eclectic gardens.

This registered historic Queen Anne-Eastlake Victorian was built for Captain Boudrow in 1889. Today it stands wonderfully restored and is home to a residency (and more) for scientists, artists and technologists. We took the surrounding landscape, and over years of thoughtful maintenance, have developed it into a garden of many texturally rich vignettes. Our aim is for the gardens to inspire the resident artists, while also elevating this Berkeley architectural gem.

The gardens are a modern interpretation of a collection garden of the Victorian age, while throwing out a lot of rules set for most Victorian gardens. You won’t find a hedgerow, lawn, carpet bedding or perennial borders. Instead, there is a focus on texture, form and movement - landscape as art.
